Ruby-throated Hummingbirds

We have one regular Ruby-throated Hummingbird and two or three others that fequent a feeder we attached below the roof of our front porch.  The other day, and I know the birds need to feed continually throughout the day, during a very electric and thunderous storm our regular conntinued to feed as if nothing had changed.  All througout the storm he would repeatedly return to the feeder.  Most birds in the midwest find shelter during a storm and you won’t see them again until they realize the storm has passed…as a matter of fact you can almost be certain a storm has passed once the birds start movong again.  I had not noticed this hummingbird behavior until the recent storm.  I found it quite remarkable but for the hummingbird it seemed natural.

Silver and her Kitten

This just in!!!  My wife, Jean, just advised me that the mother above is, Muffin, not Silver.  Muffin, as many of you know, is still with us.

I captured this image  six or seven years ago…had to take it through our sliding glass door so it’s a bit less than sharp.  Silver and her kitten were feral cats who stopped by now and then.  This particular morning the kitten decided to have breakfast within photo distance.  My wife and I miss them.
