After the January Storm – A glimpse of what’s on the way

image

During January we had a snow of about four inches – this was it.  If you look two posts below you’ll see another view.  LOOK OUT! Starting tonight a BIG STORM moves through the Midwest.  “Linus,” the Weather Channel is dubbing it, with more than twice the accumulation you see here.  As much as Nine Inches may fall in the Peoria, Illinois area.  Other areas of the Central States will receive more or less.

Preparing the Bicycle/Walking/Running Track for use

image

If you’ll scroll down through my images you’ll see the completed track – if you haven’t already seen it from a previous viewing.  This was a railway and all the track and timbers had been removed, obviously, by the time I took this shot.  You can just see the tractor at the top of the image.  My wife and I wondered when the surface would be applied -we soon found out.  A few days later we looked out and the blacktop surface was completely poured.  We still don’t know how they did it without us seeing the work being completed – the track is right off the back of our property.

A dusting of snow on the Sidewalk

Two days after a four inch January 2015 snow a dusting of new snow settled on our freshly shoveled sidewalk leaving this powdery pattern.

Cardinals feeding on a Snowy Morning

image

A few days ago we received a light snow and instead of going to shelter the Cardinals stayed to feed.

Wally, the bi-colored Squirrel

image

Say hello to, Wally.  We recently had a Black Squirrel at our  feeder and now we have a bi-colored squirrel. (I hope bi-colored is a word.). If not, I just coined it.

Female Cardinal in the Morning Light

This beautiful Female Cardinal was trying to warm herself, in the shadowy, early morning sunlight, while watching the feeder below for a chance to get some seeds.

Ming – you want a piecea me?

I took this image of our cat, Ming, a few years ago and thought I had lost it when my hard drive crashed.  I’m glad I found it.

Fussy, the Blue Jay

Fussy is a piecea work.  If we throw ten peanuts out he’ll pick up each one and test it before he ever decides which one to eat first.  When he comes back he starts the whole process over.

Black and Gray Squirrel Feeding

Black and Gray Squirrel Feeding_edited-2

This Gray Squirrel showed up at our backyard feeder for the first time, ever, 1/22/2015.  We had never seen a Black Squirrel in Peoria but once, in the summer of 2014.

Two Sparrows and a Red Blur

Cardinal about to land on the Feeder_edited-1

I was using my Canon PowerShot A590 and focusing on the two Sparrows when I took this shot.  Just as I snapped the shot the Male Cardinal zoomed to the feeder.  Not being my DSLR the A590 didn’t automatically switch to also bring the Cardinal into focus.  I still thought it was kind of neat..just a blur. (Actually the upper Sparrow is also bit out of focus.)

Sparrows in the Morning Light

Sparrows in the Moring Light_edited-1I captured this image a few mornings ago just as the Sun was shedding some of it’s light on our Sparrows waiting for the Bird Feeder to be filled.
