Unusual Early January in Central Illinois

Unusal Early January in Central Illinois

This is really quite unusual, indeed, for any January in Central Illinois.  We would normally have snow on the ground from December but, as you see, none.  We had about an inch a week or two ago and it’s melted.  I could easily have taken this same image right after all the leaves had fallen around the end of November.  We ar expecting 1 to 2 inches of snow tomorrow – I’ll belive it when I see it.

As many of you know I shoot a good deal from inside the house due to a medical condition against cold temperatures … therefore, you see the reflection of one of our kitchen lights in the garage window.

Is this whole business the result of El Nino or Global Warming?  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  1. I like the subdued light in this photo Dan. As for the snow, its beyond imagination for me at present as we swelter in our summer heat.

  2. I don’t go photographing outdoors in cold weather either. We live south of Kankakee and are snowless too! The river we live on came quite high due to all the rain. The city of Watseka was flooded for the 3rd time in 6 months. Something sure is weird about our weather lately and one wonders how much of it is due to global warming.

  3. Dear Dan, it is same in here too… snow melted (but usually doesn’t stay long in Istanbul.) the temperatures rising… but then it is expected snow again… this weather makes everybody get sick…

Your photograph seems in autumn days… 🙂 I love reflections… I had too today. But it is not so bad to be at home dear Dan, you are doing nice. There was one of my photographer friends, for a new year project he did something a few years ago. He wasn’t able to to go out but in his room., Every day he took pictures from his window… At first we thought that it would be so boring everyday to take pictures from the same window and with the same view… Backyard garden and neighbours… grass and trees… and sky… that was all. But then we understood how exciting for us too… because every day was coming in different tones, colours, and sometimes rainy, sometimes shiney and sometimes windy or snowy… I can never forget his project. By the way I can’t go out too, I am at home and watching around from the windows… With camera I don’t get bored… 🙂

Anyway, Thank you dear Dan, have a nice weekend, love, nia
