Turkey Vulture riding the distantThermals_edited-1_wm

I watched this Turkey Vulture for about five minutes and his wings never moved except to make a directional change.

Two small Redbuds beyond the Meadow

A Woodland Meadow and Red Bud_edited-1_wm

At this time of year one can see across this meadow – it’s late April 2016. Th meadow grows quickly when we get a lot of rain – which we haven’t received yet this spring.  Our forecasts keep calling for rain but the Illinois River Valley has a way of beating the odds.

Ming in a Supine Salute

Ming with Paw accross his Head_edited-1_wm

Ming had been watching one of his favorite combat films.  He suddenly plopped down and saluted.  A real Patriot!

By the way, yesterday I went to our local Nature Center and shot 50 images.  Hope to have them on display here and at my Premium Sales Site,   Dan De Ment Fine Art    in the next couple of weeks.

Flowering Crab buds about to open

Flowering Crab 2_wm

I shot this a couple weeks ago.  The buds have since opened and actually turned a bluish/purple color.  I’ll try to get a shot before the petals drop.

Phlox filtering through the Stones

Phlox Creeping through the Rocks

For the first time since my wife, Jean, planted these Emerald Blue Creeping Phlox a number of years ago the bed has outgrown the garden and snaked its way between the border stones. If you’ll enlarge the image you’ll see the delicate, red centers of the individual flowers.

Elk herd at Wildlife Prairie Park

Elk at Wildlife Prarie ParkI shot this image about ten years ago when Wildlife Prairie Park was a State Park.  Due to financial restraints in the State of Illinois it has been removed from State Park status.  The Elk sure seem to like the water, don’ t they?

Back to the Woodland

Decaying Log

I shot this decaying log image back in 1996.  Nature is taking it back to nuture new growth while providing a few lodging facilities for little woodland dwellers.  I intend to look for it this spring and summer to observe its current condition.  I’ll follow up later.

Backyard starting to look like Spring

Backyard starting to look like Spring

Well, the backyard is beginning to look like Spring has sprung.  If we could get the utility people to paint the power pole we’d really be on to something.  Some bad news, the temperarure dropped to 26 degrees last night – we did have the flowers coverd!

Pink Petunias from 2015

My wife, Jean, took this image of her Pink Petunias last summer. They’re in a planter – one that’s big enough to allow for the growth they’re known for.  They really spread out.
