Illinois River Valley on a cold Winter’s Day

I shot this image a good many years ago from a Grandview Drive overlook in Peoria Heights, Illinois.  Many of you know this area well – many do not.  Grandview Drive snakes its way for a few miles above the valley floor and the scenery is always worth an image.  You can see for miles standing anywhere along the route of the Drive.  Even having lived less than a mile from this vantage point most of my life I never tire of the vista and the beauty.

Quiet Country Lane

Quiet Country Lane_edited-1_wm

This country lane is located at Jubilee College State Park just 15 minutes outside of Peoria, Illinois.  Shadowed on the left foreground is a bean field and in the distance – a corn field. The image was shot on an early, partly cloudy, summer evening.

Doe Drinking from Bird Bath_edited-1_wm

I took this image yesterday at about 7:30 PM.  She was behind a business located next to Forest Park Nature Center in Peoria Heights.   I used my camera, an Alcatel Pop Astro.  She sure was a pretty little gal and had just been drinking from the bird bath directly in front of her.

The Last Train through Town

I shot this image, the last train through Peoria Heights, Illinois, on May 9th, 2009.  I posted it back then but it was lost when I lost my hard drive – fortunately, not all the images.  My IT Guru recovered many of them for me.

The train engineer, shown in the image, told me, “this is it, the last diesel or any other train that’ll ever be seen on this track. He was correct.  The Peoria Park District purchased the right of way, or made some agreement with the railroad, however that’s done, and the rest is history.  As most of you know, the area is now a bicycle/walking track.  Right off the back of our property.
