Male Cardinal and Black Squirrel Feeding

image

It’s unusual to get just one Male Cardinal and a Black Squirrel at the feeder without other birds and squirrels feeding at the same time.  The Black Squirrel had not been around for a couple weeks.  This particular Male Cardinal is always at the feeder.  The squirrel is so dark he can appear as a shadow much of the time – when the sun isn’t directly on him.

The Black Squirrel – What a Rascal

image

I hesitated to post this image.  As you can see it is not very good. But, everything around it is in focus.  He was standing still when I started the shot with my Canon PowerShot A590IS but he moved as I pushed down the shutter button.  The one good thing that came from this was the fact his back legs are up and under him.

Squirrel Picnic – Everyone’s Welcome

image

This little gathering is not unusual at our feeders.  The Black Squirrel gets along well with the other Grey Squirrels. Sometimes the Black one can look like a blur.

Black Squirrel Resting

image

I shot this image of our neighborhood Black Squirrel without completely zooming in to show how much a Black Squirrel can look like a shadowy Grey or Brown Squirrel.  This little fella/gal has not been around for a few days but that not is not issue – he or she may show up today or tomorrow or be absent for weeks and then return.
